Your Role as a Chaperone

The preparation you engage your students in before departing will make your role as a chaperone less demanding when you are in Japan. Preparing your students to behave responsibly and display cultural sensitivity will be an important process to begin long before you leave for Japan. During the homestay portion of your study tour, you and your students will each stay with a Japanese family and attend the same Japanese middle or high school. In most cases, you will travel to school with a member of your host family. In addition to preparing students for cultural interactions, you will also work with them to customize "Study Days" that correlate your destinations in Japan to your group's chosen study theme.
