Inside
the second bus on the way to the Olympic Village: Parkway and Apple Valley
groups
Apple
Valley High School is in Tokyo!!
The
Gig Harbor Group is excited to begin their exploration.
Harrison
High School just as eager to begin their adventure.
Jefferson
High School poses outside their dorm just before settling in.
Parkway
South students study a map of Tokyo. These students are responsible for
keeping the group on track.
These
students have purchased a Japanese phone card and are using the IC phone
to call home. Not only do students of Japanese language need to learn
the language, they have to learn that different colored phones serve different
functions. The lime green phone in the background, for example, is only
for domestic calls. The orange phone in the foreground is for international
calls. There is a gray phone that can be used for international and domestic,
most of the time, but some of those phones are configured only for domestic.
Of course, each phone uses its own phone card.

The
Jefferson High School group gathers the begin their Study Day in Tokyo.
Students
take a break for some Japanese language lessons at the subway station.

Jefferson students pose by a lantern at
Yasukuni Shrine.

Students feed some very large koi in a
tea garden.

The Jefferson group investigates the Yasukuni
Flea Market. Some great bargains for the shopper...but some very expensive
things as well.
The
group happened upon a sumo tournament for middle school grades. The student
on the left is from the middle school Wakanohana and Takanohana, former
star sumo wrestlers.
Even
at a middle school age level, the power with which the athletes charged
at each other was astonding.
