Leaving Sanjuusangendo, participants head north. A stop at one of the ubiquitous vending machines, however, was essential to provide a bit of relief from the early morning heat. Here the group stops in front of temple gate that was once part of Hideyoshi Toyotomi's palace.

Estill students take a sit down break with Kevin McQuade, TLI's development director. Although difficult to see, the group is looking at some blossoming pink lotus flowers. It's rare to see these blossom, apparently. Just before entering the grounds of one of the most famous temples of Kyoto, Kiyomizu Temple, the Estill group takes a moment for a group photo with Professor Hlawatsch, volunteer Yukiko Nakasu, two TLI board members, and staff.
